THE MISSION

More than a game.

I’m Sevi. I started Praying & Playing For… because I love sports, and I wanted the way I play to mean something for someone else.

Before I play, I pray for the child I’m playing for. Then my score determines how much I give back. It started with golf — but the idea can grow into any sport.

ABOUT SEVI

Meet Sevi.

Sevi is a 12-year-old seventh grader who has always been happiest with a ball, club, or glove in his hands. Sports are a huge part of his life, and these days golf is where you'll usually find him. He's a competitive junior golfer who has already won 10 tournaments, but if you ask his family what they're most proud of, the trophies probably wouldn't be at the top of the list.

In fifth grade, Sevi was named his school's Athlete of the Year. He was certainly a good athlete, but what made the award special was why he received it. His sportsmanship, character, and the way he treated teammates and competitors stood out as much as anything he did on the field or course. That's a pretty good description of Sevi. He's competitive and wants to win, but he's also a thoughtful kid who notices other people.

His love of sports goes well beyond golf. Over the years, Sevi has played travel baseball, basketball, and flag football, and he'll play just about anything if there's a competition involved. He's one of four kids, with an older sister, an older brother, and a younger brother. At home, you don't have to look very far to find them. Chances are somebody has started a game in the yard, and before long the others have joined in.

There's another side of Sevi that has always been uniquely his own.

Faith wasn't something that was pushed on him. His family hasn't traditionally been a church-going family, yet from the time he was young, Sevi has talked about God, prayed on his own, and shown a genuine spiritual curiosity. It's simply been part of who he is.

And that's really where Praying & Playing For… came from.

It brings together two things that already mattered deeply to Sevi — his faith and his love of sports — and gives them a new purpose. Before he plays, he can learn the name of a child fighting cancer, learn a little about who that child is, pray for them, and then go compete with someone other than himself in mind.

The gift at the end of the round may be small. The prayer may be simple. But the message behind both is much bigger:

Someone you've never met is thinking about you today. Someone is praying for you. And someone is playing for you.

That's what Sevi hopes Praying & Playing For… can become.

Apply for your child.

If your child is fighting cancer, we would be honored to consider praying and playing for them. This form is for a parent or legal guardian. You decide what, if anything, may be shared publicly.

Your child comes first. Medical details are not required. A child may also be prayed and played for privately without appearing on YouTube or social media.

Applications are submitted securely through our website host and reviewed privately. We will only use the information to consider your child for Praying & Playing For… and, if selected, to contact you and send the gift.
